Greenhouse Gas Observatories Downwind from Erupting Volcanoes

by DefendUSx

By Andrew Walden
Problems in the collection of atmospheric CO2 data parallel other absurdities in the global warming fraud. The Climategate scandal is exposing the massive and systematic fraud behind the fabrication of the worldwide temperature record necessary to make the case for global warming. But what about the record of atmospheric CO2?

The U.S. NOAA openly admits to producing a CO2 record which “contains no actual data.” NOAA temperature stations sited in ways that artificially inflate temperatures have been exposed over the past two years. CO2 observatories have similar flaws. Two of the five NOAA “baseline” stations are downwind from erupting volcanoes. All five are subject to localized or regional CO2 sources.

Media complicity in Climategate

Dec. 7, 2009

The American Thinker

Rick Moran
It’s now been 12 days since the emails from the CRU lab found their way on to the internet and into the consciousness of many Americans.

But if you’re looking for coverage of the story on TV, you have to really look for it. Fox News is covering many of the revelations, but as for the rest, The Maxwell Smart Cone of Silence has descended and it’s as if the story doesn’t exist.

A Washington Times editorial puts this in perspective:

Never mind that two major universities have at least temporarily removed prominent academics from heading major climate research facilities. Never mind that there are real questions raised about the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) controversial assessment report that the Obama administration and global-warming advocates have continually hyped in order to advance their case for new global regulations to curtail purported global warming.Liberal news agencies might be casting a blind eye at this controversy, but even left-wing comedians such as “The Daily Show’s” Jon Stewart take these events seriously enough to make fun of the defenses being offered by the scientists caught in the scandal. Take one of Mr. Stewart’s jokes regarding the now infamous e-mail about the “trick of adding in the real temps to each series … to hide the decline [in temperature].” A Tuesday repartee follows:

Mr. Stewart: “It’s nothing. He was just using a trick to hide the decline. It is just scientist speak for using a standard statistical technique recalibrating data in order to trick you into not knowing about the decline. But here is what is great about science in disagreement. We go back and look at the raw data.”

Announcer: “University scientists say raw data from the 1980s was thrown out.”

Jon Stewart: “Why would you go and throw out data from the 1980s? I still have Penthouses from the 1970s.”

Say what you want about Jon Stewart – and we’ve said plenty here at AT – the guy has a nose for news that the American people want to know. And what little people have learned about Climategate from the internet, Stewart, and late night TV comics has whetted their appetite for more.

This hasn’t moved the gatekeepers of the old media who continue to bury the story, hoping it will just go away. Fortunately, there are enough internet outlets as well as a precious few newspapers – many in Great Britain – who know a good story when they see it and are pursuing it with energy and intelligence.

It should be interesting to watch as mainstream news outlets have to really work to ignore Climategate at Copenhagen. My guess; they won’t even cover the questions asked about it.

The Cuckoo’s Nest visits Copenhagen

Dec. 7, 2009

The American Thinker

By Mark W. Hendrickson

One of my all-time favorite novels is Ken Kesey’s One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, later made into an Oscar-winning film.  Set in an institution for psychological patients, Cuckoo’s Nest was a cautionary tale about all institutions-schools, churches, businesses, government bureaucracies, etc., it dramatized the horrors of what can happen when those in charge hijack an institution and place their own ambitions and lust for power, prestige, and control above the welfare of the very people whom the institution was created to help.
The United Nations fits the cuckoo’s nest paradigm perfectly.  It is ostensibly dedicated to some of mankind’s loftiest ideals.  The U.N. Declaration of Human Rights affirms: “Everyone has the right to life, liberty, and security of person.” “No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest.” “No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his property.” “Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion,” etc.
In practice, though, the U.N. welcomes, legitimizes, and empowers regimes that systematically trample those rights.  U.N. officials readily betray the welfare and liberty of billions of individuals in their pursuit of world government.  With cynical irony, the UN extends the voting privilege to regimes that would never permit an honest, democratic vote in their own countries.  Also, because the major obstacle to global government is a strong, sovereign United States, U.N. delegates from illiberal regimes routinely gang up to vote against our interests.
Why would any American want to strengthen the UN?  Some individuals crave the unprecedented powers that a worldwide government would have.  Others pathologically hate liberal democracy, free markets, and limits on government power, and so despise American sovereignty.  Most pro-U.N. Americans, to give them the benefit of the doubt, are idealists who believe that the way to establish peace on earth is to do away with nation-states.  No nation-states, no wars, right?  Not so.
It amazes me that the same people who loathe private-sector business monopolies believe that a global monopoly of governmental power would be benign. When Stalin consolidated hegemony over the 15 republics that constituted the Soviet Union, there was no more war in the conventional sense, but the Soviet Union remained an exceedingly violent place.  The government warred against its own people, but the disarmed populace couldn’t fight back.  The death toll was enormous.
Those who believe that a one-world government would produce peace on earth should google “R. J. Rummel and democide.”  They will learn that wars have killed far fewer people than have strong governments.  Competition in business serves consumer welfare far better than monopoly, and so does political competition.  The 20th century featured lab-like experiments proving this: East and West Germany, North and South Korea, China vs. Taiwan and Hong Kong, east of the Iron Curtain and west of it – in all cases people voted with their feet to leave countries where there was a deadly monopoly of political power to live where politicians competed for the citizens’ approval.
This week the UN is pursuing all 3 of its nefarious goals trashing the rights of individuals, pushing for global governance, and knocking the U.S. down a few pegs-at the “climate change” meeting in Copenhagen.
UN Goal #1: The highest estimate of the estimated costs of a global cap & trade regime that I have seen was not from a global-warming skeptic, but the U.N.’s own figure of $552 trillion during the 21st century.  Since global GDP today is around $65 trillion, the UN is talking about sacrificing nearly a decade’s worth of wealth in the name of combating climate change.  Since the most lethal environment for humans is poverty, the U.N.’s call to reduce wealth by that unfathomable amount would cause tens of millions of unnecessary deaths — a gargantuan genocide or democide — and the violation of the most fundamental human right of all, life.
UN Goal #2: Preliminary language composed in advance of the Copenhagen confab calls for creation of a new UN body, “the Conference of the Parties (COP).” COP needs sweeping powers, because “the way society is structured will need to change fundamentally.”  Such “change” won’t be cheap, so the UN seeks a “massive scaling up of financial resources” to fund COP.
Surprise! The UN wants to levy taxes!  This is huge, because if the U.N. ever gains the power to tax sovereign nations, national sovereignty will be in mortal jeopardy, and the era of one-world government will draw near.
UN Goal #3: The climate change claque seeks to penalize rich countries — especially the US — for our prosperity. According to Friends of the Earth, “A climate change response must have at its heart a redistribution of wealth and resources.”  President Obama emphatically believes this.  He wants to redistribute American wealth abroad.  He doesn’t understand that rich countries became rich by embracing the principles of private property and free enterprise, while poor countries shunned that same road to prosperity.  The U.S. didn’t get rich by taking wealth from poor countries, and what poor countries need to prosper is not transfers of US wealth, but to adopt the right values and policies.

Thankfully, it doesn’t appear that the Copenhagen meeting will produce a CO2 emissions control agreement against a backdrop of global cooling, the climategate scandal, and economic weakness.  Nevertheless, what the U.N. insiders and Obama are plotting there is monstrous.  This week, the cuckoo’s nest is in Copenhagen

President Obama’s Annual Performance Evaluation

Canada Free Press

By Dennis Jones  Sunday, December 6, 2009

In the business world most executives get an annual performance evaluation that reviews the past year’s accomplishments or shortcomings and compares them to previously agreed upon goals and accountabilities.  As 2009 draws to a close, the following is a recap and review that President Obama might receive for his performance over the past year starting with his previous experience:

Prior Relevant Experience

  • 3 years in the US Senate (two spent running for President) – no major legislation authored, only credit taken for legislation introduced by others.
  • 7 years in the Illinois state senate, a part-time calling that allowed him to serve as a part-time law professor.
  • Three years as a “community organizer”.

Selected Domestic Policy Accomplishments

  • Tripled the budget deficit to $1.4 Trillion (daily interest on the national debt is now over a billion dollars a day).
  • Pushed for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, aka the pork-laden Stimulus of $787 billion that he personally promised would keep unemployment from rising over 8%. In fact, unemployment been over 8% since the ARRA was passed in February and in the 10% range every month since August.
  • Championed ill-conceived Cap and Trade legislation based on faulty and fraudulent science.¬† If passed, this legislation would amount to a substantial tax on every American and severely crimp the economy.
  • Made health care the number one issue in America and socialized medicine the country’s priority when polls reflect that it is not the first priority of Americans.¬† Meanwhile 8 million jobs have been lost in the worst economic slump since the great depression, Iran and North Korea are accelerating their nuclear programs uncontested and both federal and many state budget deficits are unsustainable.
  • Agreed to give Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, found by the 9/11 Commission Report to be the principal architect of the 9/11 attacks, and four other terrorists legal protection and potential not guilty verdicts via a civil trial nearby the site of the attacks.

Selected Foreign Policy Accomplishments

  • Failed to get Russia to agree to sanction Iran for its nuclear programs at a cost of selling out Eastern Europe and giving up the anti-ballistic US missile defense system in Poland and the Czech Republic
  • Apologized for America and expressed solidarity with Muslims in his Cairo speech during his four nation trip to the Middle East and Europe. “Islam is not part of the problem in combating violent extremism—it is an important part of promoting peace,” he said.
  • Schmoozed with dictators Hugo Chavez and Daniel Ortega at the 34-country Summit of the Americas and again apologized for America: “We have at times been disengaged, and at times we sought to dictate our terms. But I pledge to you that we seek an equal partnership. There is no senior partner and junior partner in our relations.”
  • Accomplished absolutely nothing on his recent trip to Asia widely panned by the media of both the US and Asia.
  • Pondered what to do in Afghanistan for 100 days and then committed more troops. General McChrystal advised him to commit more troops in his one five-minute meeting with Obama three months ago.

Miscellaneous Selected Accomplishments in Random Order:

  • Ceded the most power to unelected officials in history creating he largest number of Czars, not elected and not confirmed by Congress, ever.¬† Their qualifications will be another column.
  • Changed the image of the US from strength to weakness by his high profile bowing to the King of Saudi Arabia, to Vladimir Putin and to the Japanese Emperor.
  • Scolded CEO’s for travel expenses then took Mrs. Obama to a Broadway show via presidential jet.
  • Failed to bring the Olympics to Chicago after a very public personal effort.¬† Both he and Mrs. Obama jetted off to Copenhagen, on separate jets, in a highly visible lobbying trip that was unconvincing to the Olympic committee.
  • Won the Nobel Peace Prize for accomplishing precisely nothing.
  • Sold a flight on Air Force One that over-flew Manhattan and panicked the city.
  • Gave high-profile thoughtless gifts, an Ipod to the Queen of England and to Prime Minister Gordon Brown a box of 25 DVD’s of classic American movies.¬† In contrast, the Prime Minister gave Mr. Obama a very thoughtful and symbolic gift—an ornamental pen holder made from the timbers of the Victorian anti-slave ship HMS Gannet that complemented the oak from the Gannet’s sister ship, HMS Resolute, carved to make a desk that has sat in the Oval Office in the White House since 1880.
  • Achieved a record number of cabinet picks that subsequently withdrew due to tax other ethics problems.
  • Building a cabinet with the least amount of private sector experience since 1900. Less than 10% of the cabinet members have private sector experience.
  • Met with Andy Stern, President of Big Labor’s SEIU 7 times in a record 22 visits (the most frequent visitor according to white house logs) after pledging to keep lobbyists out of the White House.

Summary of Performance:

  • Performance generally unsatisfactory.
  • Ineffective, lacks leadership skills and experience.
  • Has difficulty focusing on agreed-upon priorities.
  • Not fiscally responsible or able to adhere to a budget.
  • Exhibits poor judgment when dealing with peers and colleagues.
  • Not suitable for rehire.

The fix is in, liberal media selling out for pot of government gold

Dec 4, 2009

Western Journalism

Watching liberal journalists desperate for a government bailout as they prostrate themselves before Congress can be so confusing:
Should we be embarrassed as these media representatives of the “best and brightest” beg for official handouts while proclaiming their devotion to independent journalism?

Or should we laugh at the irony of what is left of a once-proud liberal media establishment choosing to become wards of the very state they so vigorously promoted for the past several decades?

Speaking as somebody who has made his living reporting and analyzing the news for more than two decades, I tend towards the embarrassment option.

In any case, it’s clear that the fix is in and all that is left now is for the liberal journalists and their new masters in government to complete their kabuki dance enroute to congressional approval and presidential signature on a massive package of aid for politically correct newspapers and broadcasters.

Sarah Palin weighs in on Climategate

Dec. 4, 2009

The American Thinker

C. Edmund Wright
There has been call among conservatives for Sarah Palin to weigh in on the climate gate scandal, and tonight she has.

Via her favorite forum for chiming in on the national conversation, Facebook, she has issued the following statement:

The president’s decision to attend the international climate conference in Copenhagen needs to be reconsidered in light of the unfolding Climategate scandal. The leaked e-mails involved in Climategate expose the unscientific behavior of leading climate scientists who deliberately destroyed records to block information requests, manipulated data to “hide the decline” in global temperatures, and conspired to silence the critics of man-made global warming. I support Senator James Inhofe’s call for a full investigation into this scandal. Because it involves many of the same personalities and entities behind the Copenhagen conference, Climategate calls into question many of the proposals being pushed there, including anything that would lead to a cap and tax plan.

Policy should be based on sound science, not snake oil. I took a stand against such snake oil science when I sued the federal government over its decision to list the polar bear as an endangered species despite the fact that the polar bear population has increased. I’ve never denied the reality of climate change; in fact, I was the first governor to create a subcabinet position to deal specifically with the issue. I saw the impact of changing weather patterns firsthand while serving as governor of our only Arctic state. But while we recognize the effects of changing water levels, erosion patterns, and glacial ice melt, we cannot primarily blame man’s activities for the earth’s cyclical weather changes. The drastic economic measures being pushed by dogmatic environmentalists won’t change the weather, but will dramatically change our economy for the worse.

Policy decisions require real science and real solutions, not junk science and doomsday scare tactics pushed by an environmental priesthood that capitalizes on the public’s worry and makes them feel that owning an SUV is a “sin” against the planet. In his inaugural address, President Obama declared his intention to “restore science to its rightful place.” Boycotting Copenhagen while this scandal is thoroughly investigated would send a strong message that the United States government will not be a party to fraudulent scientific practices. Saying no to Copenhagen and cap and tax are first steps in “restoring science to its rightful place.”

– Sarah Palin

What is particularly effective is her use of Barack Obama’s words against him. Twice she recites the “restore science to its rightful place” phrase, including her final sentence challenge. She also backs up her own credibility on the subject with practical experience she had as governor of the nation’s only glacial state. Unwritten is the fact that Obama was merely a community organizer at that time.

Some would have liked something from Palin a bit sooner on this subject, but in light of the Copenhagen announcement, this timing is effective. Perhaps the Jurassic media will notice that she is once again tackling a serious subject with facts and linear thinking. A subject, in fact, dominated by unserious science for decades.

Climategate Is a Liberal ‘News’ Media Scandal, Too

News Busters
By Rich Noyes | December 3, 2009 – 13:32

Two weeks ago, unnamed whistleblowers exposed years of e-mails from scientists working at Britain’s Climatic Research Unit (CRU). The CRU’s Web site describes it as “one of the world’s leading institutions concerned with the study of natural and anthropogenic climate change,” but the e-mails paint the CRU as more of a political “war room” for radical environmentalists.

As Boston Globe columnist Jeff Jacoby observed Wednesday: “Assuming the e-mails are genuine, they are nothing short of scandalous. They reveal celebrated climate scientists apparently conspiring to corrupt the peer-review process, to suppress or finesse temperature data at odds with global-warming alarmism, to silence or discredit climate experts who criticize their work, and to hide or eliminate the raw data on which their own much-trumpeted claims have been based.”

Yet since the story broke, the MRC’s Business & Media Institute (BMI) discovered just one broadcast news reference to the “Climategate” e-mail scandal, on ABC’s This Week November 29; CBS and NBC have yet to inform their viewers.

‘Overexposed’ Obama begins to duck the WH press corps

Western Journalism

After months of what some critics called overexposure, President Obama has of late avoided questions from the White House press corps at large, closing the Oval Office to traditionally informal question-and -answer sessions with reporters and pulling back from the fast pace of news conferences he established when taking office.

Obama has recently avoided taking questions from the press

The president, whose job-approval ratings have been on a steady slide, hasn’t held a formal news conference in 19 weeks, since July 22. That one ended badly, when Mr. Obama waded into a racial controversy by saying a white police officer “acted stupidly” when he arrested a black Harvard professor.

“It can’t be a total coincidence that the last time he faced the press corps, we ended with beers in the Rose Garden with Henry Louis Gates and James Crowley, when the focus was supposed to be health care,” said Julie Mason, a White House reporter for the Washington Examiner who also covered the Bush administration for the Houston Chronicle.

Update:

I know that many people are sick of this issue. But don’t you think that it is extremely important to know whether or not Obama genuinely qualified as a Natural Born Citizen before elected as POTUS?

As I have stated many times before at this blog – there is an intense and increasing interest in the “Birther” claims. Of course, the same people who refuse to face facts will scoff at this. However, those who previously did not know the facts, but are now seeing them meticulously laid out (via the Kerchner et al vs. Obama et al case and other cases) are now realizing that there is something terribly wrong. Why would Obama shell out 2 million dollars to lawyers to hide his bona fide COLB and other records?

Every day, my site meter stats show that someone has reached this blog via a search with the phrase, “Barack Obama birth certificate truth.” That is all that people are trying to find out – THE TRUTH about this issue.

Here is one of my previous blog posts that has drawn a lot of interest lately:

Where’s Obama’s Birth Certificate? Within the post, there is proof that the timeline of his mother’s activities and the birth of Obama Jr. don’t seem plausible.

Why is there so much mystery about this man?

Heck – former president George W. Bush was scrutinized beyond belief by the media and all that they could come up with to use against him was a past DUI and the phony story about his National Guard Service.

Look at all of the nefarious characters surrounding Obama! The Obama File website has complete documentation of all things Obama – the good (which there is VERY LITTLE), the bad (A LOT!) and the UGLY (the terrible policies run up the deficit, take jobs away, and that put our national security in danger!). The Obama File site has been selected to be included in the Library of Congress records! What is being reported there is not trivial!

Look at all the effort that is going into destroying this nation by Obama and cohorts. They are doing it in any which way they can!

Sooner or later – the truth will be made known to all. I just continue to hope and pray that it will be SOONER, rather than later. I don’t know how much more our Constitutional Republic can withstand before it reaches the disastrous breaking point.

Obama Momma Nora O’Donnell Attacks Teenage Palin Supporter

By William Kevin Stoos  Friday, November 20, 2009

https://i0.wp.com/www.canadafreepress.com/images/uploads/stoos112009.jpg

If anyone ever needed proof of how much the Left fears Sarah Palin, or how desperately MSNBC seeks to generate some news, they need only watch the pathetic attack dog interview conducted by self styled Obama Chick Nora O’Donnell of MSNBC this week. O’Donnell, stalking a line of Palin supporters waiting to get their books signed, like a shark circling its prey, pounced upon a teenage Palin supporter who wore a funny tee shirt lampooning the TARP bailout. It seems that this female Keith Doberman Wannabe just could not wait to engage this unsuspecting young girl in a debate as to whether Sarah was, or was not, in favor of the government bailout.

Of course, this ambush interview had nothing to do with reportage and nothing to do with the merits of Palin’s position on this issue at all. Nope, it was simply one more hit piece by one more MSNBC hit person designed to embarrass this young girl, impugn Sarah and her supporters, and prove once again, how stupid everyone to the right of Keith Doberman, Chris (Tingle Down My Leg When Obama Speaks) Mathews and Nora (Obama Chick) O’Donnell really is.

But, what can we expect from a “news” organization whose sole function in life was to attack the Evil One—George Bush—every evening during the Presidential campaign, ensure that their man Barack was elected, and thereafter, lead the cheers for the Obama Administration. MSNBC (Most Sycophants Nuzzling Barack Constantly) has, like every one of the national news organizations (ABC—All Barack Channel); CBS (Covering Barack Seriously), long since lost any semblance of credibility and is nothing more than a shill for Barack Obama.

Yet, what is it with this constant attack on Sarah Palin? Why are the Left and its Obama- fawning media outlets so desperate to attack Sarah Palin that they stoop to attack little girls in bookstores? It was not enough to trash Sarah and her family during the campaign, in the most vicious conspiracy to impugn a public figure ever undertaken by the mass media; it was not enough for David (Male Chauvinist Pig of the Year) Letterman to make jokes about Sarah’s daughter being raped at a baseball game. Now they resort to stalking lines of Palin fans and embarrassing themselves by asking stupid questions and trying to outsmart teenagers.

The answer is clear: while the Left pretends to be in favor of strong willed, independent, successful women, it only favors them if they are doctrinaire liberals. If women, like Sarah Palin, dare to espouse conservative values, are in favor of traditional marriage, do not believe in killing babies, and dare to think that people can succeed on their own without reliance on Uncle Sugar, then these women—like Sarah—become the enemy. I do not even think the Left realizes its own hypocrisy.

While liberal Democrats and their captive media pretend to champion women’s rights and equality of the sexes, and pretend to be so tolerant of all races, religions, and sexual orientations, they trash a good person like Sarah Palin and now attack little girls who stand in line to get a book signed by her. Of course, this is nothing new. After Obama dissed Hillary—who had far more votes during the Democratic primaries than the middle-aged white man who was picked as the Vice Presidential candidate—Obama sent his female minions who, unfazed by his shunning of Hillary, were nevertheless anxious to do his bidding. They spread across the land to criticize and slander Palin, trash her family, and convince the public that Democrats do not really hate strong willed successful women; rather, they just hate strong-willed successful women who are not liberals.

The only thing stranger than the dissing of Hillary was that Hillary—once dissed—was nevertheless anxious to do Obama’s bidding. She fanned out across the country along with a group of Obama Stepford Sisters, including Janet Napolitano, Kathleen Sebelius and others for the sole purpose of trying to stem the tide of Sarah Mania, which was then sweeping across the land. The only thing more curious than a party that prefers to field an all-male team, is that subservient women of that same party were most willing to trash another woman just because Obama commanded them. Between Hillary, her Stepford Sisters, and the lap dog press, which gets a collective Chris Mathews tingle down their leg whenever they hear Obama speak, the Left pulled out all stops to demean, undermine, and defeat the new girl on the block in 2008. And, as the recent O’Donnell interview with the little girl illustrated, the Left is at it again. It seems that Sarah is just too dangerous and they must continue to attack her lest, some day, God forbid, she may run against The Great Obama.

Sarah Palin’s only fault is that she is clean cut, intelligent, impressive, kind-hearted, endearing, compassionate, successful, religious, family oriented and (God forbid), unabashedly in love with her husband and children. And, she is one tough lady to boot. They just cannot stand this. It strikes fear into them. When Gloria Steinem—who once championed the ideal of the successful, intelligent, independent woman who could do whatever she desired to do—came out during the last election to trash a woman who typifies everything Steinem used to laud, then you know the Left was desperate. It still is. The Left is afraid—pure and simple. Nothing else explains their irrational behavior, their obsession with all things Sarah, and their continued campaign of slander, libel, and recent attacks on her supporters. The Left is, indeed, afraid of girls. They fear that, next time, this girl just might kick their butt
